What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file sent by a website server to a web browser. Web pages do not have a memory as such and cookies help to remember your preferences. Session cookies expire when the web browser is closed. Long term or persistent cookies stay on your browser from 1 minute to years.

Why do we use cookies?

Cookies on this site range from long-term cookies to remember you, and your preferences, to short-term, session cookies that expire when you close your browser.

Eg if you select to decline certain cookies on this site a long term cookie will be set to remember your preferences. If you visit the site in the future the server will read the cookie to “remember” to not load the cookies that were declined. These type of cookies are essential for the correct operation of the site.

If you decline all cookies or delete cookies from your browser you will have to set your preferences each time you visit our site.

Other examples of essential cookies would be a cookie that is set by a logged in user. When logged in a session cookie will be set to keep you logged in. when you log out the cookie will expire. However, if you set your browser to remember your login details a long term cookie will be set to remember your preferences.

Deleting or declining such cookies will result in you being logged out and your login details will not be remembered.

We also use third party cookies provided by Google Analytics

We use these cookies to compile and store anonymous statistics about browsing patterns, site behaviour, the number of pages you visit, if you go beyond the homepage, if you are a new visitor, a returning visitor, the country you are in, the approximate area you are in, the operating system you use (if known), the browser you are using (if known).

This data helps us to understand how our site is used and areas where we may need to improve the site further. It’s important to note that this data is not personally identifiable and is only used for statistical purposes.
